How should I handle banknotes?
Banknotes should be treated like any other surface. When handling banknotes we advise practising good hygiene and following the advice from the Department of Health. This includes washing your hands and avoiding touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
Creased or folded banknotes are still considered legal tender. It is not recommended that you apply heat to the banknotes as this may damage them. You may also be able to exchange your banknotes at your local bank if you are unhappy with their condition.
The Reserve Bank advises banknotes are stored where they are less exposed to environmental factors that may affect their quality over time.
